Johanne Martens is a PhD candidate at Deakin University, Australia, investigating beak and feather disease virus in wild parrots. Before moving to Australia, she studied at Hohenheim University, Germany, and wrote her MSc at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology. She is a birdwatcher and nature photographer.

Friederike Woog is fascinated by birds since early childhood. After doing her PhD on the then endangerd Hawaiian Goose in Hawaii and at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in Slimbridge, she became curator of birds at the State Museum of Natural History in her hometown, Stuttgart (Germany). Her main research interests are birds in Madagascar including their blood parasites, the population ecology of Greylag Geese and introduced birds. To share her knowledge she started lecturing at the University of Stuttgart Hohenheim in 2015. Bird ringing has been important ever since obtaining her first BTO permit, best in all sorts of places around the world.
