Ernesto G. Verga is a pos-doctoral fellow at CONICET. He is interested in the effects of land use change caused by agricultural expansion on populations and communities of bird species. He carries out his studies in the Chaco Forest, one of the most threatened regions worldwide. His current project assesses effects of forest loss on bird species richness, abundance, and composition, and examines which is the adequate landscape extension to understand such effects (scale of effect). Such approach allows to define minimum landscape extensions (units of conservation) and minimum forest cover within such local landscapes to conserve bird community in the region.
