Per Alström is a Professor, working at the Department of Ecology and Genetics at Uppsala University, Sweden. He is also associated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he was a Visiting Professor in 2012–2014. His main interests are taxonomy, systematics and speciation, and he has published a large number of scientific and popular science papers as well as two books and several book chapters. He has travelled widely, especially in Asia, where he has spent altogether several years in the field since 1982.

Min Zhao is a graduate student at the Department of Biology at University of Florida. She got her MSc from the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her main interests are phylogenetics, biogeography and molecular ecology of birds.
