Richard Francksen conducted his PhD at Newcastle University in the School of Biology, in collaboration with the Langholm Moor Demonstration Project – a partnership between the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust, RSPB, Scottish Natural Heritage, Natural England and Buccleuch Estates. His research focussed on exploring the impact of common buzzards on red grouse at Langholm Moor in southern Scotland, which involved combining diet studies in summer and winter, foraging patterns, breeding biology and home range assessment with estimates of potential impact. His research interests incorporate conservation conflicts and sustainable land management.
