Alex currently works as a Senior Marine Wildlife Survey Consultant with APEM Ltd., based in Cardiff, UK, having obtained her PhD from Cardiff University in 2021. Alex’s PhD investigated the genetic variability and immunogenetics of two sympatric species of storm petrel in the Azores, funded by the EU KESS scheme, and supervised by Drs Frank Hailer, Rob Thomas, Renata Medeiros Mirra and Carsten Müller. The research presented here formed part of Alex’ PhD research. After her PhD, Alex worked in a Covid-19 testing laboratory, where she was responsible for handling laboratory robotics that carried out Covid-19 testing and running qPCRs. Alex joined APEM Ltd in August 2021, where she is responsible for managing offshore wind projects and analysing data collected from digital aerial surveys of seabirds and marine megafauna.
