Charlotte Hemelrijk has studied biology in the Netherlands. Her PhD focused on investigating the social exchange in captive chimpanzees. Her habilitation in the Artificial intelligence laboratory in Zurich concerned the self-organization of social behavior of primates, which she studied in a computational model. At present she is professor at the GELIFES institute at the University of Groningen.
