Frédéric is professor at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, and has been director of the French ringing scheme until 2019. He used to develop research on trends in bird populations and communities facing global change from breeding bird survey data, and is now more engaged in studies of bird migration, migratory connectivity and viability of migratory species facing human-induced mortality (hunting, wind farm collision). He has been chairman of the French Rarities Committee.
