Per Alström is a Professor, working at the Department of Ecology and Genetics at Uppsala University, Sweden. He is also associated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he was a Visiting Professor in 2012–2014. His main interests are taxonomy, systematics and speciation, and he has published a large number of scientific and popular science papers as well as two books and several book chapters. He has travelled widely, especially in Asia, where he has spent altogether several years in the field since 1982.

Gang Song is an Assistant Professor, working at the Ornithological Research Group, Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing. His major research interests are biogeography, phylogeny, and phylogeography of birds. He has published several research papers on the phylogeography of passerine birds in China. He spends much time in the field, leading field expeditions to, especially, study bird diversity in central China and the southeast part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
