Gustavo Liñán Cembrano is a Tenure Scientist at the Instituto de Microelectrónica de Sevilla (IMSE-CNM CSIC-Univ. Sevilla). He is a physicist and a PhD in Microelectronics (“Design of Low-Power Mixed-Signal Vision Chips”). Since the beginning, his research was oriented to the microelectronic design of low power integrated circuits capable of acquiring and processing the visual information in the same device. This research line evolved into the design of vision chips capable of capturing very high dynamic range images (+150dB). After more than 15 years designing microelectronics for vision, he started developing image processing applications in biological studies.
Jesús Gómez is currently a PhD student at Estación Biológica de Doñana (EBD-CSIC), and he collaborates with researchers in other countries, including Canada and the UK. In his thesis he is tackling some evolutionary and ecological questions related with the coloration of avian eggs, especially of ground-nesting species. Eggshells exhibit diverse coloration and patterns and the drivers that affect their designs differ depending on the species.
