Tessa van Walsum is in the final stages of her PhD at the University of Roehampton. She studies the King Penguins’ (Aptenodytes patagonicus) diving behaviour, and King Penguin’s behavioural response to sounds while awake and asleep. For this she completed three field seasons on a remote French sub-Antarctic island (Crozet) and collaborated with the University of Strasbourg. She obtained her BSc and MSc Marine Biology at the University of Groningen, Netherlands. For which she studied captive Bottlenose Dolphins’ (Tursiops truncatus) sleeping patterns, and the hydrodynamics of an Adelie Penguin (Pygoscelis adeliae) flipper.
