Involved with the BOU as:
Member of Meetings Committee

BOU member since: 2016

What is your role on the BOU Council or committee on which you sit?
As a member of the Meetings Committee I help to discuss and decide on the themes for conferences, making sure they are always as interesting and relevant as possible.

What do you enjoy most about your involvement with the BOU?
Working with people who are as passionate about ornithology as I am, the chance to discuss science topics that are outside my usual work areas and making new contacts.

What would you say to anyone who is considering joining (or leaving!) the BOU?
Please support this important and respected organization.

If you’ve attended a BOU conference, what did you get out of it?
Interesting talks from speakers who are experts in their field, finding out about the latest research and socialising with colleagues from a diverse range of organisations, both scientists and practitioners.

When did your interest in ornithology begin?
Attending my first ringing session when I was about 12 – seeing a Nuthatch in the hand was a memorable experience!

What would you say to anyone considering research in ornithology?
It’s a hugely rewarding career and you can really make a difference for nature conservation.
