Riccardo Ton developed his deep passion for the avian world in Italy when, at the age of six, he discovered some caged birds hidden in his father’s garage and started to catch sparrows in his grandma’s garden. Back then, in his region, wild birds where still seen mostly as pets or food. Later he discovered birds were also an amazing system to test scientific questions and they became the focus of his professional career. During his PhD at the University of Montana (USA) and a post-doc in Australia at Macquarie University he has, among other research, been exploring the ecological, physiological, behavioural, and life-history variation caused by temperature, especially during embryonic and post-natal development.
