Tim Birkhead has been a birdwatcher since the age of five and an academic since the age of 26 when he took a position at the University of Sheffield where he has been ever since. He is best known for his research on promiscuity in birds. He enjoys teaching, painting, playing electric guitar, and writing popular science. Two of his books Bird Sense (2012) and The Most Perfect Thing: the Inside (and Outside) of a Bird’s Egg were short-listed for the Royal Society Popular Science Prize. He is married with three children and a dog.
