Maurizio is a senior researcher, currently Associate Professor of Zoology at the University of Palermo, and leads a research group that mainly deals with Zoogeography of Vertebrate Fauna, Conservation Biology and Management of Protected Areas. In recent years (2000-2022) he has carried out basic research funded by the University of Palermo, and above all research on behalf of third parties and of public and private national bodies, mostly managers of parks and protected areas. Former curator and then Director of the University Zoological Museum, he is mainly interested in the ecology and migration of birds of prey, but is now working on the effect of offshore wind farms on migratory and pelagic birds.
