About the author

Robert Montgomerie

Bob is an Emeritus Professor and Research Chair in Evolutionary Biology at Queen’s University in Canada. He has conducted research on aspects of sexual selection and parental care in myriad birds, fish, insects, reptiles, and mammals, mainly in arctic regions. Currently his focus is on the evolution of body size and mating systems in the Gray-crowned Rosy Finch on St Paul Island, Alaska. In 2014 he coauthored an award-winning book on the history of ornithology (Ten Thousand Birds: Ornithology since Darwin) and continues to publish widely on that topic. Every month or so he will write a post for this blog, taking a deeper dive into the historical background of a paper published recently in IBIS.
