Careers in Ecology and Ornithology: Learn from a range of speakers on their ornithological career paths and have a chance to put questions to those who’ve pursued a path outside of academia. Please contact Angela Langford to register for this workshop.

Fundamentals of Radio Tracking (Lotek UK): Join Sarah from Lotek UK to discover the fascinating world of radio telemetry. This workshop will cover the various types of tracking technologies used in wildlife conservation efforts, and demonstrate how they contribute to the preservation of biodiversity. Participants attending this workshop will gain insights into best practices, troubleshooting techniques, and effective data interpretation. Additionally, we will be conducting a hands-on practical to help you understand radio telemetry better! Whether you are an experienced wildlife biologist, a student exploring career paths or an amateur naturalist, this workshop is designed to equip you with the necessary tools to get started with this exciting technology. Limited availability. Please contact Angela Langford to register for this workshop.

Wildlife Acoustics Workshop

Bioacoustics as a research tool for birds: from data collection to analysis
Day 2 | Wednesday 2 April 2025 | 1315 – 1400 | Paul Howden-Leach, Wildlife Acoustics

Open to all. A workshop looking at bioacoustics as a research tool for the study of birds. The workshop will look at the potential of bioacoustics in general followed by a walk-through of some equipment and potential deployment options to fit in with a variety of standard and non-standard protocols. Case studies will be used, and attendees own specific deployment needs will be addressed to design the most appropriate schedule for their potential study. Following on from this the workshop will move on to data analysis using Kaleidoscope Lite and Kaleidoscope Pro. This element of the workshop will focus on signal extraction, rapid data analysis, and building species classifiers. No previous experience in bioacoustics is needed.
