BOU Committee Shadowing Scheme
As an extension to standard committee member nominations, the BOU now runs the Committee Shadowing Scheme, whereby individuals wishing to gain more experience of sitting on a committee, without being a full member, can be nominated to shadow a committee.
The primary role of a committee shadow will be to attend committee meetings and observe. Committee shadows are not required to be members of the BOU (unlike full committee members) and would not be voting members. They will however gain valuable insight into the workings of a learned society, improved understanding of the requirements of committee membership, and personal development and networking opportunities.
Committee shadowing is suitable for those who may wish to gain more insight, experience or confidence before becoming a full committee member. The BOU particularly welcomes nominees from underrepresented groups to participate in the scheme.
Committee shadow terms are for two years and involve sitting on one committee for the entire term. There are typically two committee meetings per year, with each lasting approximately 3-4 hours. Successful nominees will take up their position in July 2026.
You can nominate yourself or someone else (with their permission) for the scheme. Self nominations are welcomed.
