BOU 2015 Annual Conference

#BOU2015 proved to be the BOU’s largest ever annual conference. Over 200 ornithologists attended to hear a packed programme of talks, posters and the new ‘talking posters’ – it was buzzing!

Our reception desk acts as the conference hub – lots of feedback questionnaires and voting slips for best ECR presentations coming in! We are also driving down our carbon footprint for our conferences, recycling our plastic name badges (some delegates like to collect the paper inserts from our conferences) and we no longer print the delegate pack – that saved over 20,000 sheets of paper!
Plasma screens around the venue had a rolling slideshow informing delegates about what was going on at the conference.
Talking Posters! Wow! A series of unmanned, narrated PowerPoint shows running continuously throughout the conference in a dedicated screening room. Well attended and great feedback and we will improve on this trial for next year. And watch for them popping up at other events soon 😉

This conference was Jenny Gill’s last as BOU President. We’re going to miss her big time!
Over 60 early-career researchers attended our now annual ECR event. Too many for our usual seminar room so we had to use the main lecture hall! This years event was on ‘demystifying the publishing process’ with an expert panel of IBIS editors, Associate Editors and BOU staff answering questions from ‘what’s the use of a covering letter on submission?’ to ‘should I be on social media?’.
