#theBOUblog extras
#theBOUblog publishes more than just research from our journal IBIS. We cover work funded by BOU grants, presented at BOU conferences, and informative science communication pieces in multiple languages! Below are some extra bits of the blog curated to showcase this portfolio of work.
Informative Blog Series
History of Ornithology
Led by Bob Montgomerie, this series explores how our understanding of ornithology has developed and changed over time based on work recently published in IBIS.
Methods and Perspectives in Ornithology
A new series of blogs, we hope to introduce you to different methods and ideas in ornithology that may be relevant to your work with the aim of making research more transparent and accessible by providing these tools to help you get started exploring new aspects of ornithology.
Science Writers
Our Journal Support Officer publishes fortnightly blogs about recent work in IBIS. You can read Jente’s blogs here or find the current series by Dr Ashleigh Marshall below.
Presented at BOU Conferences
BOU Urban Birds
9th-11th April 2024, Nottingham, UK
About the conference: Estimates indicate that urban areas cover somewhere around 2% of the land, depending on how urban is defined and measured, and this area is going to continue to expand. This will put pressures on species. It will drive declines in the populations of some species and result in changes in communities, behaviour and physiology of others. Understanding the interactions between people and birds in the urban environment will be invaluable to managing urban areas, and also managing the two-way interactions between people and birds. It will help us to understand the impact we are having on birds, and the impacts and potential impacts that could have on people.
#theBOUblog in Other Languages
Ornithology is not limited to English, and we want to allow blog authors the opportunity to publish in multiple languages to improve the reach of our science communication and increase accessibility.

Work Funded by the BOU
You can find details of BOU-funded projects all the way back to 1996 and links to all of the blogs reporting on this work.
BOU Diversity Blogs
Diversity is an important part of ornithology, and we like to celebrate the stories of our members as well as highlighting key issues within the field. Find out more about our diversity blogs here.
